Important Information:

Ozaukee Aquatics Needs Officials

The Need

Most swim clubs have a number of members who train and serve as officials for the club but Ozaukee Aquatics currently has 2 trained officials. Consequently, every time we run a club swim meet, we have to depend on trained officials from other clubs to volunteer. We need more individuals to become officials for the club. OZ will pay for all fees related to the training (i.e., initial $25 fee and annual $10 re-certification fee) and certification (i.e., $48 annual USA Swimming Non-Athlete Member Registration.

Requirements for Training: Getting Started as a Stroke and Turn Judge

 1. Training Clinic: Attend the “New Officials Training Clinic - Stroke and Turn Judge,” which OZ is planning to sponsor during the early part of the summer. The clinic typically lasts only 4 hours. The date and location will be announced in the next few weeks.

 2. USA Swimming Test: Complete USA Swimming’s on-line, open book test. USA Swimming non-athlete membership is required to take this test.

 3. On-Deck Apprentice Sessions: Complete apprenticeship training sessions which include attending two meets for a minimum of four sessions. Trainees are mentored by certified officials during these training sessions.

 4.  Other Expectations: Must minimally be 18 years of age, wear appropriate attire (i.e., Solid navy blue skirt, shorts or pants, white collared shirt and white shoes), and have a positive attitude.

OZ Discount-Incentive

To increase participation, OZ will offer a 50% discount for one swimmer for each adult within a family who agrees to officiate. This discount will be offered for all three sessions for our club, as long as the individual meets the club requirements (i.e., must officiate at all club meets, must officiate at least one session each day of club meets). Additionally, being trained and serving as an official will waive the club commitment to work the meet. People will not be eligible for the discount until they are trained, certified, and serve as an official for a club meet. We also intend to cap the number of members eligible for this discount at 10 adults.

Contact for Further Information

If you are interested in officiating for Ozaukee Aquatics please contact Alan Burkard at Alan.Burkard@Marquette.edu or at 262/241-4193.
